How To Know If You Are Compatible With Your Partner
It is true that not all
relationships end in marriage. But, there is one important element that can
keep you on the right track towards being together with your loved one as long
as life favours you. That element is called Compatibility.
In every Relationship show or talk
you may have witnessed or listened to, you must have heard that for a
relationship to stand, the two people must be compatible with each other. Compatibility
does not mean that every trait or character in you must be in your partner. No.
it does not also mean that your partner must possess all those attributes you
lack so as to make you complete.
Compatibility simply
means to get along well with someone. It also means being a good match - being a potential husband or wife,
lover, friend, etc.
However, there are a
million and one ways to know if you are compatible with your partner, but the five major ways you can detect this are as follows;
1. Good communication: There is no better way to know a person than to be/speak and with the person or
at least, try to know the person better. This is because the more you relate with your partner, the more you understand him or her.
2. Views/ Ideas: As time goes on in a friendship or relationship, you are bound to discover certain things about your significant other – the good, bad and ugly. You get to understand his stand on different issues. You also learn how he reacts to different situations, how she would act if something were to happen and so on.
A female friend of mine was seeing a guy. She liked him so much that if he proposes to her, she would gladly say yes. One day, as the two were discussing marriage and weddings, she innocently asked him a question that 80% of Nigerians have asked at one point in time. “would you like to have your traditional marriage and white wedding on the same day? Guess what his response was… “I don’t think I would get married. Marriage is not my thing” he replied. Then, the next question on her mind was “then, what am I doing with you?”. This is one of the reasons why you should get to know your partner better and know whether you two want the same things or different things. Remember, you should be with someone who shares the same ideologies with you.
3. Peaceful: for the
fact that s/he is your partner, you should feel comfortable and peaceful
whenever you are around him or her. When sad, the thought of your partner
should always brighten your mood and not the reverse. You should feel safe and
cared for whenever you are with him/her. If you are always tensed up or
intimidated whenever you are around your partner, it is high time you gave the
relationship a second thought.
4. Does not speak carelessly to you: You should respect your partner as much as you want him/her to respect you. One of the most unhealthy relationships history ever recorded involves the ones with abuse. Abuse does not only come in when there is beating. It could also be in form of speech. If you partner always says or do things that hurt your feelings, there is absolutely no reason to still be with them. There may be misunderstandings, but they should be resolved calmly with love.
5. Cannot live without
them: There should be a strong connection between you and your partner. This connection
usually grows out from honesty, trust and love. Your significant other should
be someone you over time realized that you could not live without. That is how
much you should feel about him or her. No second thoughts.
Moreover, if your
partner does not carry you along honestly, make you feel safe, share the same
ideologies with you and you do not connect with them, it is high time you took
the high road.
These tips I shared
with you could also tell you the direction your relationship is headed, whether
for good or bad.
